2017 Wohali Bass Classic In The Bag

It was a average day for Justin and Brenda Curnette as they readied their tackle to kick off the 7th annual wohali bass classic bass tournament. The day turned tuff when they didn't find any fish they felt could cash a check in this prestigous event. As they made their way back to the event, they held one last bit of hope, in that there was still a red ticket left in the their arsenal of tackle. This red ticket is the one handed to them by the Wohali Staff during registration the day before.

One by one the anglers crossed the scales and one by one the results were tallied. 12 lbs, 13 lbs, 16.68 lbs. Vance Montgomery and Brian Potter take the top spot for $10,000 dollars. Still team Curnette holds on.. It wasnt their time.

Check presentations began $150.00 and up through all 15 paid places, then the conservation prizes all took minutes off the clock and the Curnette's grasp the red ticket knowing the time was almost at hand. JT Griffin, the president of the Wohali Outdoors Group, took the stage and presented the big white check  then turned to the crowd and announced, "Bring me the box"

There was a calm in the crowd as every year someone leaves with a brand new BassCat boat and this year it was a pretty blue !  The youngster designated to draw the winning ticket made his way to the stage. He reached in and stirred the tickets up really good then pulled the one winner from the lot. The first number was announced, the whole crowd roared. The second number was announced, half the crowd roared. As each number was called off, and each time the roar got smaller.

It was dead quiet and we could swear we heard the grass growing as the last number rolled of the lips of tournament director David McCoys lips. Everyone paused, Justin Curnette looked down, and I believe with all my heart took another solid look, then proceeded to yell, "Here, Here, Here !!"  On a day that started out as any other day the Curnette's went fishing on Grand Lake O' the Cherokees. The only difference is this time it was during the Wohali Fall Bass Classic, the only tournament format that gives away a BassCat boat by random draw.

We want to thank everyone that came out to fish this year and look forward to seeing you next year. Stay tuned to this site for details and please sign up for the newsletter for early announcements.
